Mangos vary in color by variety, so the best way to determine if a mango is ripe is to give it a gentle squeeze. If it gives slightly, it's ripe. If your mangos are not yet ripe, place them in a paper bag and keep them at room temperature. They will become sweeter and softer after a couple of days. Ripe mangos can be refrigerated, or  sit out at room temperature.

Mangos are imported from various countries depending on the time of year. Countries where they are grown include: Mexico (Feb.–Oct.), Brazil (Oct.–Nov.), Ecuador (Dec.–Jan.) and Peru (Jan.–Feb.).
