Persimmons offer a very high level of sweetness. They have a distinct elongated dome-shape with a wonderfully smooth, bright orange exterior. It can have the astringency removed via carbon dioxide treatment, and is therefore delicious when eaten firm or soft. These can be eaten with the peel on or off. When deciding on which persimmon to choose, it is best to note that fruit with a good, uniform orange peel will provide the best taste. Fruit with a lighter orange peel with indicate less maturity. Traditionally, persimmons are eaten in a soft jelly-like state. 

These persimmons are full of delicious goodness. This fruit is great to eat as a snack or a wonderful addition to salads, sauces, yogurt, ice cream, cereals, granola, baked goods and more. They can be eaten while firm, but the flavor is sweeter as the fruit softens and ripens. Persimmons can ripen at room temperature on your counter. Once ripe, refrigerate for up to 3 days. Persimmons are ripe when they are soft to the touch. They have a great fall flavor profile with sweet taste like a pear with brown sugar and cinnamon. 

As a snack, wash the exterior, slice in rings, discard leafy top and enjoy the remaining fruit slices.
